hindu pantheon on the gulf coast

Inspired by a trip to India in the months following hurricanes Rita and Katrina, these Hindu gods and goddesses appear in destroyed landscapes which I photographed along the Gulf Coast. (They are digital images with variable sizes.)  Lord Ganesh, elephant god and offspring of Shiva and Parvati, is known as the Remover of Obstacles and the God of Wisdom, the Lord of Thresholds.  Lord Ganesh is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to his devotees.  Lakshmi (who plays the flute) is the primordial source of creativity, beauty and love.  Lord Shiva, who sits meditating on Holly Beach in Southwest Louisiana, is the God of Destruction and Creation.  Tara is the Mother Goddess of Compassion; she hovers in the remains of a home on the Mississippi coast.
